Meteor rain starts today!

One of my colleagues just informed my that tonight the leonoides will start to collide with the Earth's atmosphere. Its an histroical event that has been recorded since year 802! Chinese astronomers described it as a rain of stars and the egyptiens named the year "The year of the stars".

It comes about due to the Earth crossing the path of a comet, Tempel Tuttles, and the residues enter the Earth's atmosphere with a velocity of approx 250 000 km/h and burns.

If you look up into the sky it will appear as if the "star rain" comes from the star sign of the Leo, hence its name.

So, I don't know, sounds pretty romantic to me. So if you have a loved one close by, bring them out into the dark night, gaze towards to sky and enjoy this magical event!

The Leo is situated below the plough and the left of Orion's belt, just by Saturn!
Happy star gazing!
